1

Give ChatGPT a role

Start your prompt by telling ChatGPT who it should be. "Act as an expert copywriter" produces dramatically different output than an open-ended request. Roles set the tone, vocabulary, and expertise level of every response.

2

Provide context

AI cannot read your mind. Include the audience, goal, format, and any constraints. "Write a 3-paragraph LinkedIn post for startup founders about saving time with AI" beats "write a post about AI."

3

Show an example

Paste one example of the output you want. This "few-shot" technique aligns the model on style and structure far better than description alone.

4

Iterate, don't restart

Treat the conversation as a collaboration. Ask for adjustments — "make it shorter," "add a bullet list," "change the tone to playful" — instead of starting over each time.
